Project: Chalet Road Residential Forest Garden
This edible landscape started out on very tough soil with perennial grasses and weeds forming the initial ground cover. To get started, we brought in Clydesdale horses from White House Stables to heavily-graze the grasses and weeds and leave us with manure. Next, we brought in an excavator to shape a water harvesting swale and small wildlife pond. Then came sheet mulching, soil building and cover cropping. Finally, a whole host of edible trees, shrubs, berry bushes and herbs were planted. This forest garden is now thriving. Our maintenance team still visits every 2-4 weeks and what a fun property it is to work in!
